So grateful for ebird's hotspot map which narrowed down the locations for this species. They hang out with the lesser goldfinches but in much smaller numbers and are much more shy. I returned to the creek bed for three consecutive days but only got off 6 frames, this was the only one with an acceptable head turn.

Our English Goldfinch is one of my favourite little birds, so I love the see the different variations, Laura!  Well done to keep going back - and your persistence paid off with this lovely capture.  :)

I agree e-bird can be a wonderful tool. Pose could not be better. Excellent exposure and detail on a tough to get bird.
