Red-billed Firefinch. Male.

Going through some shots from our previous trip to Lower Zambezi, Zambia, I came across some images I had not processed before - including this one.  It is a tiny finch I had not heard of and never seen, until now.   They like to be near water, so along the Zambezi river suits them just fine.

"Firefinch," the name describes the bird perfectly, Carol, it's gorgeous. Also, the red tones interact beautifully with the greens. Love the detail and the tiny water droplets on the breast. Excellent image!

Incredible colors on this bird. Firefinch name matches nicely with this beauty.

Love the details on the plumage and a stellar background, don't you just love it when you come across a wee gem like this in older files.

Congrats Carol on your find.

Wow. Seen it's brother Finch in Nakuru Carol. (Black Bellied Firefinch). First glance I thought I was looking at the same bird, but the East African variety has that darker breast and it's tail is only red feathered on the edges whereas this looks far redder.

Cracking shot and is shown off perfectly Carol.

Been enjoying your forays immensely...

Beautiful little bird, in a nice pose, fine detail, and a complimentary BG.
Fun to find unexpected old gems, isn't it? :-)
