A very fine image, Gene. I like everything about it. The composition, pose, and perch stand out immediately for their excellence. Image quality is first rate! Great work.

An excellent well composed image Gene and such detail. what a combination the D850 and the 300 lens, The details just pop, has to be seen when clicked on.

Great perch, pose and background. I would move the bird to the left by about one inch if it were mine. Fancy looking perch!!!

Rob,
Thanks.  The Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens is extremely sharp.  Using the 850, I have found that the better sensor allows extremely sharp images at a higher f/stop.  In the past, probably would not have considered f/10 because sharpness would drop off after f/8.  Have not tried f/stops above f/10, but will give them a try also.  The opposite may also be true, that if you do not have a sharp lens, the 850 might highlight that also?
