Still finding hidden oldies. This is a Malachite Kingfisher, fishing from the exposed tree roots along the Zambezi river in Zambia.

Canon EOS 10D Sigma 100-300F4 + 1.4TC.
ISO 200. F5.6.

Handheld from a small boat.

Those rich colors make this pretty special. I can't capture a kingfisher if my life depends on it, so I'll bet this must have been a real prize to achieve.

Thanks Laura! I know what you mean.....I still have to get a decent shot of our English Kingfisher, and it was definitely a big help being in a small boat along the Zambezi river - its amazing how flighty birds seem to be unable to see you in a boat!

A beautiful photo of a beautiful bird. I love Kingfishers and the Malachite is on my list - someday. Great work Carol - keep them old Zambezi's coming!
