This poor bird struggled for a long time and I started worrying that he/she can't let the fish go. Obviously it was way too big.
After several minutes, finally the fish was let go and the bird was free.
Shot against the sun but the high bank provided shading.
Thanks for looking.

Amazing detail when you click on this one Karl! You can see the physical exertion of the osprey, and the backlighting shows up the millions of tiny water drops beautifully. I'm glad you were able to see it fly free.

Nice action shot Karl. Looks like Ospreys arrived up North on the East Coast just like here :-) I love the water spray. I have seen this kind of heavy fish lifting many times.

The massive number of water droplets throughout the frame emphasize the vast amount of energy the osprey was expending to get that large fish out of the water. A powerful image that tells a great story, Karl.
