Fresh of the CF card shot this afternoon. I came back again today to have fun with Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows. They were all swarming above the water. Weather was terrible, rainy, cold, windy. Light was terrible. Since I want to have at least 1/2000 shutter speed I was forced to shoot ISO-3200 against dark grey overcast reflection on the water.
It was very challenging to get decent shot since I had to take the shots when birds were very close , since at ISO-3200 there is not much room for crop due to more grain and noise in low light.
I spend 2 hours there to get handful of decent shots.
Swallows are one of my favorite BIF birds to shoot, so much fun...non-stop action :-)

You have a strange idea of fun! I spent a frustrating hour doing the same thing yesterday, and my results were nowhere near as good as yours; good job!

This a beauty, Ludo. Great topside detail, and nice high key presentation. I prefer this over your previous post. Excellent.

Very impressive results given the tough conditions! Facial detail is superb.

Nice picture, not easy to get it on flight and in bad light.

You got a fantastic result here; great color and detail, and it doesn't look like much of crop for your ISO.  I'd certainly be happy with it myself.

The drab light you had may have made the shooting more difficult, but for the results, this is the best kind of light to have in general (IMO), and especially for a high-contrast subject like this Tree Swallow.  Your previous Tree Swallow post, while nice, doesn't hold a candle to this one.
