Smew with lunch

Another one from the cutting room floor.  I am showing this one just because of the catch this little male is trying to eat!  A grab shot in poor light because I could see it was fighting with something, and this is what I saw.  :)

What a wonderful behavioral shot, Carol. The light actually looks pretty decent, and it illuminates the prey in the bill perfectly. Super job of capturing this unique action frame. If you have gems like this on your cutting room floor, I can only imagine the five star images you are holding.   8)

What a great shot - that's a pretty good sized lunch for this smallest of ducks.

Interesting behavioral image. Nicely exposed. Consider moving the bird higher in the frame as an alternate compositional choice?

Love the duck and the lunch is a big , big bonus. I think the light is not bed and I agree 100% with Ron.

This would be a lifer for me Carol that you have so well captured here. Correct me I am wrong but do the Smew only breed around East Anglia?

They overwinter in various places in UK and return to Europe/Scandinavia etc to breed, Rob.  I'll send you an email with some info.  :)
