Bananaquit - Grenada
a7R III, 100-400mm @ 400mm, ISO 800, f/6.3, 1/160s
The Bananquit is one of the Caribbean's most common birds but it usually has a bright yellow breast and belly and prominent white stripes on the head as well as a white underside to the tail.  The small southern Caribbean Islands of Grenada and Saint Vincent have an endemic and much rarer variety among the many "normal" Bananaquits that is all black but shares the pinkish red gape.  I saw several of the all black morphs of this small bird and was able to get this photo of one of them.  While not a great photo by any means as it is just a grab shot as I was walking around in Grenada on a vacation, I still wanted to post it as it's a bird that not many will ever see.

Great narrative and great image of this scarce black morph, EJ. Love the colorful habitat you included. Well done!

I agree, and the red flowers are a perfect setting for the black bird!
