Shot at the same location as the previous Avocet shot. This bird was skittish. Every time I try to get closer it moved farther away until I ran out the space when I was right at the edge of the water. I squat down low and waited for the right moment. 1.4X TC really made the difference in this shot. Without it,  I was too far for any decent image.

1D4, SIGMA 500mm f/4.5 EX DG HSM + 1.4X TC (700mm f/6.3)
1/1600, ISO-1250, f/8, handheld.

Please click on the image for uncompressed view, thank you.

Very nice capture, Ludo! This has an artistic feel to it, and I think the background, which hints of habitat, does it. Nice low perspective, lovely pose, and good detail.

I love all Avocets, and your American version is so lovely with the extra colour. Beautiful shot Ludo!
