Shot yesterday at the same spot were I got the Marsh Wren shot posted earlier. I had my setup with 500mm + 1.4X TC on tripod under the camo net waiting for ducks. This duck came from the right side. I had some cover from cattails. Duck didn't even know I was there until I pulled the trigger and it was gone like a rocket.
First time I have seen Ring-necked Duck. It has very bright yellow eye.
This is FF shot with no crop. I didn't have the time to take 1.4X TC  of, it would fill the frame better. But I am not complaining, I take what I got.
1D4, SIGMA 500mm f/4.5 EX DG HSM + 1.4X TC (700mm)
1/600, ISO-640, f/6.3 (wide open) on tripod.

Ludo, The comp is unfortunate. But on the other side, the FF shot allowed for extra nice details. Agree about the eye.

Very nice light and detail, Ludo! The golden eye is striking. I agree that a little more room in front would be nice, but the wake behind the duck adds interest.
