Shot today late afternoon. I waited almost an hour for this wren to popped out the grass onto open area. It did for only a split second and it went back to cattails.
1D4, SIGMA 500mm f/4.5 EX DG HSM + Kenko 1.4X TC (700mm)
1/640, ISO-640, f/8, on tripod.

Great light Ludo, the focus looks a bit soft to me, sometimes I prefer not to use the extender, I feel like I loose quality my friend!

Yes, the image is a little soft, but I still like it :-). My shutter speed wasn't fast enough for this shot, it happened so fast. I have some very sharp images with this Kenko 1.4 X TELEPLUS 300 DGX. Problem wasn't the TC but not a fast enough shutter, since this bird never stopped moving. You are correct , TC take some sharpness away, but 500mm with 1.4 X is 700mm lens, slightest vibration, movement can affect the image sharpness. sometimes you win, sometimes you loose :-).

This is similar to the Carolina Wren I'm familiar with, and they move quickly and fast making it difficult to get a shot. Love the pose, and the background complements the wren perfectly, Ludo.

Pretty typical marsh wren behavior. I hear them far more than I see them. Could be sharper, but still a very nice image.
