I never get tired of shooting "The Gray Ghost" and there seems to more of them than usual this year. This was a consolation prize since my barn owl was a no-show (after I waited 5 1/2 hours for it!).

Please click image for uncompressed view, thanks.

Nice shot of the "Gray Ghost". 5 1/2 hour wait for Barn Owl. I know that feeling when I am waiting for Barn Owl for hours. You went with 500mm instead 600mm. 500mm is hard to beat, very versatile and easier to handle and lighter.

Sorry to hear that the Barn Owl did not show, but this "consolation prize" is wonderful. Great detail, and good lighting in the head area.

Bob, Nice shot. We have the grey ghost in S. Texas, but have been close enough to get a shot. Like the detail and lighting. For my eye, if space allows, I think a 4X5 horizontal crop with a slightly looser crop might look good? You probably know this, but in Lightroom, Alt X will automatically change the crop from a vertical to a horizontal, and vice-versa.

Barn Owl or not, I'd be happy to wait 5 1/2 hours if I knew I would come away with a shot like this! Excellent flight position with good detail.
