Red-backed Voles are common at the Sax-zim bog in Minn.  They are the main prey for Great Gray's at that location.

Great image, Paul. The perch with snow is perfect for this type of shot. Love the penetrating eyes, and the vole captured naturally is a refreshing.

Awesome image with the prey in its beak adding the extra punch. I wish I had more images of this species. They are so remarkable.

In case there is any confusion this owl hunted in front of me and dove through snow to get the vole and landed not far away on the stump pictured.

Nah i never doubted you (it is clear in the photo that it is a natural prey item). When i read Davids comment 'bait was sourced' i could see how this might come across as confusion but i am sure all he means was 'the prey was naturally from the area'. It is not bait rather prey.
