Very nice detail, David. The waves in the water are interesting and add a lot. It may have not been possible, but shooting at a lower angle would also work well here.

Nice capture of this interesting bird, David!
This bird spends most of its time at sea, only coming to land to breed on rocky cliff shores or islands.
I assume you shot this on land since tripod was used?

KK, In my experience these birds are one of the more common pelagic species in Monterey Bay. I infrequently, photograph them close to shore using a tripod at Monterey Harbor and Moss Landing, Ca.
