Sharp-tailed Grouse

St Louis Co, MN

D5, 600, 1.4TC, ISO 1600, 7.1, 1/5000

Got this one last week while laying in the snow in -30 degrees without wind chill. One of the craziest and most exhilarating photo experiences I have ever had.

Excellent action image of a rarely posted species. Nice that you captured eye contact with both birds, even the one facing away. DOF looks good at F7.1. Well done.

Alan, Really nice. But at least it was probably a dry cold.

Thanks James. I used a white sheet as a blind.

I read your story of the trip.....incredible. I can't imagine the work....and the cold to get this done. A tribute to your tenacity and exceptional skill to get the job done. A fantastic image.

Fantastic action shot. Must seen clicked. -30 DEG...ouch. I remember my days in North Dakota with -40 without wind-chill.

Wow! Great action shot of this very interesting subjects in beautiful light. You probably needed that shutter speed to freeze them. I bet you were frozen too.
