American Wigeon - Tempe, Arizona
D500, 500mm, ISO 500, f/16, 1/640s
These types of shots are tough as the entire DOF at 40 feet is just 10" at f/16 so you can't simply focus on one bird and let the DOF capture the other one.  The fact that they are angled towards me helped by putting the female closer to the focal plane of the male than if they were totally parallel but I still manually bumped the focus a tad beyond the front bird (male) and took several shots varying the focus between the two to get this frame where both are sharp.

Another beautiful low angle photo. It looks like you are swimming with them. Really appreciate your explanation; sounds like it was quite involved to get these beauties.

You succeeded with the depth of focus here E.J. and the low angle really works here. The only thing that could improve the image would a slight head turn of the drake to highlight the green cheek patch.
