I drove 3+ hours to photograph the Short-eared Owls.  A great place but a long drive for about 40 minutes to shoot.

They stayed a bit far from the road but I did manage to get a couple of images.  This was the last of the light.

You sure did catch the owl in nice warm light, Lana. And the habitat works great for the background. Curious, were you tempted to crop in a little closer? It is very nice as is, but I think a cropped version would work also.

At least you found them and got the shots! Such pretty owls and you caught this one with nice downswept wings and in beautiful light. For me, this is perfectly positioned in the frame with room to hunt. Lovely image, Lana.

Thanks Ron.   It was already a decent crop and I just didn't want to "push the envelope".  If I had taken it with the 5DMkIV I could have easily done more cropping   Sometimes you just have to take what you can get.

I like the composition. We typically have 10-50 each winter and none this winter. Of course locals are blaming photographers for harassing them last winter.

Nice flight shot in warm light . I only have few good shots this season. I miss SE Owls, so much fun to shoot.

Nice flight shot in natural habitat, Lana.
Once I drove 2500 km return, to shoot one hour and fifteen minutes.
The shoot was called back due to inclement weather and cancelled for the next day.
