Photo of a Crested Caracara taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas January 5, 2018.

Nikon D5, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/2500 sec at ISO 2000.

Photographing with a friend on a very overcast day who was using his new Nikon D850 and allowed me to use his D5.  Have never photographed with anything that shot at more than 5 FPS.  The autofocus, ISO capability, and frame rate is amazing.  This image was taken at ISO 2000.

Look closely and you'll notice the Caracara is missing one leg.  He walks fairly well and is not targeted by the other Caracaras.

Wow, the wing spread and tail spread is wonderful, Gene. Great detail, color, and lighting.

Not only is this a nice shot of a landing with good detail and nice background. It shows a unique behavior adaptation due to the bird only having one leg. Thanks for sharing.

Look like a man wear a mask of the bird & jumping on the ground with his one leg. Phenomenal photograph.

I remember this guy at Laguna Seca - good to know he is still doing well.
Beautiful detail and excellent pose, and very sweet BG.
