Very nice image, but, for me...the background would have been more pleasing if the camera was moved to the right to avoid the broken up background around the beak...very difficult to do because the movement, time, and commotion in moving a tripod often will cause the bird to take flight because of fear.
This the reason I never shoot birds on a tripod. For myself, as a artist, giving up the compositional freedom of camera movement would be insane.
Long heavy lenses produce trade offs for all...very apparent when looking at the postings at NSN.

Swanuck, The detail on the bird is excellent. Handholding a heavy lens for a period of time is close to impossible for anyone. I think you can manipulate the background to reduce the clutter behind the beak, which as Steven points out would be a nicer image.

Best image of this species I have seen. Nice pose, detail and color in soft light. So nice to catch one in the open with a clean background.
