This is a female Columbarius Merlin that was hunting dragonflies at a local field. It took many attempts trying to get this wing position with her head and wings sharp. It is very difficult as the Depth of field at 840mm is pretty small.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it

David

Incredible shot. This is good as it gets. This shot would be hanging on my wall in metal print biggest I could get.

Excellent. Did you pre-focus on the perch and then shoot in manual?

Richard,

Great question.
No I didn't prefocus in mauaul on the perch but I did use focus lock assigned to my rear lock button on my camera.
This way I can bump the focus on the perch with the shutter, then lock with my thumb as the bird comes in, then unlock as soon as the bird lands as it may have prey or may do something special right after it lands. Otherwise I would be scrambling to turn on the AF again.

Hope this helps
