I was excited to get this image yesterday. I saw this harrier catch a bird in the ditch ahead of me and then fly into the field and land close to the road. It let me drive up next to it while it was eating the prey. Suddenly a juv. bald eagle swooped in from nowhere, flushed the harrier and caused it to drop the bird. The eagle made a tight circle, grabbed the prey and flew off with it. The harrier circled the area a few times looking to see if anything was left behind and that is when I got this shot and several others.

Please click image for sharper uncompressed view, thanks.

Such a great opportunity and an amazing shot, Bob. The wing span and the fanned tail is perfect.

Very nice to get a Ghost in a nice position like this. To bad it lost its meal but thats nature for ya. Love the wing and tail position along with the colorful BG.
Nice details too. Well done

Marvelous pose! I'm very envious - my harrier shots are mostly butt shots going the other way.
t's rare to see the underside - a Very exceptional image - great work!
