This was taken on my first day out with the D500. I used a 1.4 teleconverter even though I didn't really need that much reach since the DX sensor got me close enough to my subjects. I wanted to test if the 200-500, 1.4 and the D500 would be useable for flight shots. I mostly photograph ducks in the Winter and the occasional Willet/Curlew/Godwit so I can't speak for smaller birds that would be more of a challenge to capture, but for my personal use, I'm very satisfied with the results. Btw, the pintail was too close to the background so it's not as smooth as I would like.
D500, 1.4TC, 200-500, 1,2000sec, f8 @ ISO 450. Thanks for looking and for your comments.

I feel you have proven your case for that combination of lens, camera, and converter. Well done.

You will love the D500 and wow this is tack sharp with that combination. The Pintail I think is one of the fastest ducks in flight, you must have an excellent technique, congrats on this wonderful frame.

Superb shot. I really like the down wing pose and the details are amazing. I am very impressed with D500. Some of my friends own D500 and they all really like it. Arguably one of the best crop sensor camera on the market right now.

Great exposure, details, wing position and eye contact. I love the texture of the BG. Just great.
