Im curious, why flash the background? is it because its filled with a lot of shadow and dark spots? Really neat image and species

Hi James....I usually shoot at my setup under high overcast skies, so the cedar hedge which forms the background can be too dark without the flash. No flash on the background also makes it more obvious that the bird has been flashed, even though it's just a touch of fill.
