Just back from Taiwan! What a cool birding experience! As it was my first Asia trip, I was introduced to all sorts of new species and even new families! My group managed to find 26 of the 27 recognized Taiwan endemics, this Swinhoe's Pheasant among them. These guys are montane, preferring thickly wooded alpine slopes to the open fields of North American pheasants. Light in their surrounds is quite hard to come by, so I was stoked when this bird appeared at roadside and climbed up onto the stump!

I have posted the first part of my Taiwan travel/birding write-up on my blog for anyone who is interested. The next installment, complete with all sorts of bird photos, will be out in another week or so.

Dorian, Nice photo. The entire image works well together. Details are excellent, especially considering you were ISO 3200.

What a great looking pheasant and a really nice photo of it too.
The colors, pose and details look sweet and I really like the mossy log he's standing on.
Congrats getting this guy out in the open.
Must have been an awesome trip. Keep em coming.
