This Barn Owl was taken in captivity in Ontario. As a young lad growing up in England the Barn Owl was always seen before dusk hunting in open fields. A white washed fence post surrounded by pellets was a sure sign of a Barn Owl. Sadly the population has decreased for a number of reasons.
Over the years there have been reports of Barn Owl sightings in Niagara. I have been birding in Niagara for over thirty years and have never had a glimpse of one yet.
Taken with the Nikon D800E,
1/1250 sec. f/7.1 300mm
ISO-400.

I have images of all the Owls breeding in Ontario, all free flying but this species.
Excellent image, Rob.

What a striking frame, Rob. The dark background sets off the Barn Owl beautifully. Superb!

Stunning against that dark background. Nicely exposed and that is one interesting perch.

Always great to get a nice side profile or look back from a  Barn owl as the feathers on their backs are some of the most unique and beautiful feathers in the bird world.  I like everything about this one but wish for better eye contact. Do you have one on this perch where she looked up at you?
Nice looking captive set up for sure.
