Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas May 7, 2017.

Nikon D810, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1000 sec at f/7.1, ISO 800.

The perch is from a Native Plum Tree, which is not at all a common tree in South Texas.  The plums are about one inch diameter and the wildlife eat them up pretty quickly when they ripen.

Beautiful work, Gene! The contrast of the dark bird against that lovely gold background is absolutely stunning.

What an unusual and prehistoric looking bird this is. Very nice portrait of him with Great exposure control and nice details in the darks.
Maybe re-work the clone mark by the tail. Well done

David, Nothing was cloned on this image.  The mark near the tail was not on the image I posted.  Will have to try and figure that one out.  Thanks for pointing it out.

becoming really difficult to chose which photo to comment on...
