Japanese subspecies of the Eurasian Nuthatch

I think this is the most elegant subspecies of this endearing bird (that I have personally see to date).
Stumbled on this oldish photo and thought that it would be a "break" from my more recent Brazilian postings.
Photo taken in the middle of winter in North-East Hokkaido.
