I was driving around a local wildlife area a few winters ago when all of the sudden I herd a familiar sound of rushing air. The stoop of a falcon!! As soon as I stopped my truck to look into the air I heard a big whack and this coot came plumeting from the air and fell on a raised dike right next to me. I stopped and froze and this beautiful passage (juvie) female peregrine landed on the unconscious coot. She quickly leaned over and bit its neck to kill it and then realized I was there looking at her. I fired off 3-4 frames and she left her kill and flew off never to return. It was an awesome sight and I am glad I got a frame or two to remember the brief encounter.  Hope you like her.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it.

Thanks for pointing that out Jan. Something happened when I downsized this one and the colors changed giving the green cast.
I reposted so It should look better now.
Thanks again

Great nature story telling image, David.
I like the beauty of this young bird and the intense look she gave you.
I hope she returned after all to not let her quarry wasted.

Thanks everyone.

Karl, yes they usually return to the kill, but with great vision she was probably sitting a mile away on a hillside waiting for the right time to come back and get her well deserved meal.

Outstanding behavioral image. Very nice pose, low angle, and a great background.

Thanks everyone.

The low shooting angle was lucky because she landed on a raised dike that was about eye level with my truck.
