I was actually out trying to photograph some ducks when this guy popped up so close that I had to settle for a portrait with my 300mm.

Looks a little bit soft. Maybe it was too close, within the min. focusing distance.

Looks like you could have used a little more depth of field on the bill, but the remainder of the image looks pretty good. Nice portrait, John!

Nice eye contact, a change in f stop would have got the tip of the bill in focus. But these shots happen so fast and you only get one crack at it.

Cool portrait John, super pose, I agree on a bit more depth of field for the beak.
