Very plump loon chick, so stuffed with food I'm not sure he could swim or even float.

I agree, Sandy, a dream shot. And the youngster does look "stuffed." What was it eating, if you know?

Ron, After the loon chicks hatch, the parents spend the whole day every day catching fish and stuffing them into begging mouths. Some of the fish are almost the size of the chick!
They need to grow very quickly, so they can make it through the cold Canadian winter coming in only a few months.

Thank you for the information on feeding these youngsters. Amazing! This one's legs and feet, it appears, can barely touch the ground, or mom's back, because it is so full.
