This spring I was photographing bluebirds in flight, and felt fortunate to capture this one with a perfectly visible cricket in its beak. Yes, I wish the tail wasn't clipped, but wanted to post it because it is something different. I was shooting in low light at a shutter speed slower than optimum. This really needs to viewed in shadow box, so please click on image to view it full size. Thank you.

No need to apologize for the clipped tail. The image is spectacular as is

Regardless of the tail you nailed the main point of the image. Great job Ron.

One of my favorite subjects and you did a great job getting the most important part sharp, the head.
Nice detail and BG too. Ya, I wish it wasnt clipped but still looks good. BTW this looks like a species of cricket to me?

Thanks for the identification of the cricket, David. With stripes on the abdomen, I just assumed it was a bee. I have amended the title accordingly.

Very nice capture. I actually like the slower shutter speeds, creates a nice wing blur.

Ron, awesome face and cricket detail when viewed large, exactly where it counts!  Really enjoyed the unusual angle of view with the 'in the moment' action, has a spontaneous, stream of consciousness feel to it.

Great capture. The clipped tail doesn't bother me, since my eye is drawn to the cricket and the eye of the bird.

Great catch! Tack-sharp head, eye, and cricket overcomes the motion blur.
