A striking portrait. Since you are in so close already, you might want to consider cropping off the thin strip of sky along the top, leaving the bit of sky which is a little lower on the left. Nice work with this Golden Eagle! :)

Rob, Agree--excellent portrait. Not sure cropping closer would be better? I think a clear blue background behind the bird would be better. Curious what others think.

I think a bit wider crop would be nice. Blue is very attractive and more of it, particularly on the left, would look nice.

Very nice as is and as much as I like what Dorian and Ray say, I would go the other way and eliminate all the blue plus some black at bottom. You then would have some light tones in beak/eye/around collar against a black brown background...I assume that piercing yellow eye would become even more powerful...

Very nice image as is.

I like the stare and interesting composition, too.

Is this a captive bird? You didn't post any techs. I can't imagine getting this close to a golden eagle no matter what lens you used. Your depth of focus is pretty deep if you used a super telephoto.

It is always interesting and helpful to see the techs on images posted here.

Dear Rbrown10,
Following up on RLK's post...
Captive bird ? Fed bird ? If not, the most unbelievable shot of a wild Golden Eagle I have ever seen.
Does not take anything away from your photo, but this info should be shared with us, your public.
It is difficult to phrase a comment: do we congratulate the unbelievably lucky nature lover who happens to be at the right spot at the right time, or do we congratulate the very competent "studio" photographer ?
With good wishes for great encounters, ugolino

I'd like to tell you I snuck up on this eagle and snapped his picture but the truth is that he belongs to a friend of mine, who is a falconer.
