I caught this Say's Phoebe a few years ago coming back to this perch with a cricket as I was set up shooting a local Kestrel that was hunting from this perch. The kestrel took off and just as we were about to leave, this guy flew in. Nice way to end the days shoot :)

Perfect wingspread, exquisite detail from head to tail, lunch in the beak and the most beautiful complementary colours.

What a glorious image David! Love it.

Thanks Karl!!  I teach these techniques to lots of my clients and students and It's actually very easy to learn.
It has more to do with patience and understanding your subject's behavior more than it does the technical stuff.

You and Denis need to plan a trip out to sunny California for some shooting and I will give you some free lessons, it won't take 10 years :)

Thanks so much everyone!! Glad you like it. It's one of my lifetime favorites!!

David, stellar incoming pose, especially with the cricket and harmonious colors!  Beautiful light, details and action.
Was good to see you working the field the other week, just wished the light and birds had cooperated.

Wow, this is fantastic David. It's not enough to just nail a perfect flight pose, you also get the bonus prey-in-mouth!
Awesome colours and sharpness as well - great image...
