Yesterday Shawn (Pope Shawn Paul) and I headed to the Cascade Mountains to try for some warblers with Townsend's high on our target list. We found several but most were not willing to come down from the tall conifers. This one, however, proved to be a willing subject, at least for awhile. I was not trying for flight shots but after shooting a burst of this one on a perch I checked my LCD and discovered this image. I couldn't wait to get home to process it.
Sometimes we all get lucky!

Please click for uncompressed version, thanks.

When I was out west a couple years ago I found they responded really well to black-throated green audio calls, I have no clue if that was isolated but may be worth a try next time your out.

They occasionally hybridize with hermit warblers out here (have seen some hybrids) so we used that audio as well. In the end it is just a matter of finding the right bird.
