Even though we are at the end of our fall season and headed into winter these Australasian Shovelers have just moulted and are in prime breeding plumage. I know right? I am having a hard time grasping breeding seasons and moulting in NZ. We don't have many migrants. Most birds are year round residents. These ducks are very skittish but have moved into some wetlands in the city limits to avoid persecution from duck hunters.

Great presentation, Mike! Love the wings-down pose and the striking color on the shoveler! Interesting narrative too!

Wow, looks like a hybrid of a Blue wing teal and a northern shoveler. Nice pose, colors and details. Well done Michael
