Purple Martin (female)

Shot this morning at nearby bay. This is first time I have seen Purple Martin. There were quite a few perched and flying around.
These are long distance migratory birds. They arrive here in the spring from South America's Amazon Basin and late summer they head back south...some serious distance.
1D4, EF300mm f/2.8L USM NON-IS
1/500, ISO-400, f/4.5 handheld...dark overcast.

You sure nailed the detail on this bird - very sharp. The Purple Martin is beautiful. Could you get an angle where the end of the perch was not covering part of the birds body?

Thanks for the kind words. I tried to move to get better angle , but bird took of  :-) ..that is part of the game.
