Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas May 7, 2017.

Nikon D810, 300mm lens, 1.4 TC, 1/1000 sec at f/9.0, ISO 800.

Grooved-billed Ani are located only in the U.S. in South Texas during the Summer months.  They're typically very secretive, staying in the trees or only coming to water on the ground to drink.  This one was looking for a mate and picked up a wasp to show his good intentions.

Intersting bird. Great pose, perch and bg. The bug adds interest.

Graduated BG, outstanding head turn, exposure and icing on the cake - an insect. Hats off.

Stunning image. Nice head turn, light and detail. The warm golden tones at the top of the image compliment the bird well and the insect puts this over the top.

Sweet! Beautiful bird, nice pose, very complimentary BG. VERY tough bird to catch in the open, so this is especially nice.

Late to the party but had to stop by to tell you congrats on the beautiful capture. The prey takes it over the top.
