As this is a photo forum, i do not want to open up an ornitholigist debate.... yet I thought you may be amused to know, especially for those based in Northern America, that this is currently called a "Golden-fronted Woodpecker" and listed as a subspecies, with the beautiful latin name "dubius"... which obviously in this case means "dubious" !!!!
Not a shade of "gold"... on this female. I chose the female photo as it is better than my photo of the male....but there isn't a shade of gold on the male either. Prior to my trip, I had "eliminated" the concept of looking for it... but when I saw it, i could not resist taking good shots of it... and i do not regret it. Best, ugolino Working on a personal website.... Comments and advice welcome.
