We have a very tame American Bittern that recently arrived in a local marsh.

A "tame bittern" almost seems like an oxymoron. Good bird, very nice comp.

Never heard of a tame bittern either. Can only say, lucky blighter and glad you took advantage of the opportunity as this is gorgeous
