Thanks for comment and suggestion.
I realized the contrast wasn't right as soon as I saw the photo posted.

I just happened to click on your profile right now, hence the late reply.  Your saw-whet photo caught my eye right away as I was also able to see one this spring in a very similar setting.  I wonder why that hole is oval instead of round?  Great find as it is an extremely rare opportunity to see a juvenile saw-whet in the wild.

Just saw your response
The saw-whets decided to use a well used duck box at the edge of the property near a coulee (about 1/2acre away from the house), thus the hole was well worn
Wasnt aware they were even there until the young ones stuck their heads out (3 offspring)
They were very quiet :)
