This was taken over the weekend at a pond close to my house in Christchurch, New Zealand. These guys are just finishing moulting and are looking really sharp. With duck hunting season just around the corner these guys move to the city ponds where they can't get shot. This species is very wary of humans so i use some camo mesh and lay flat. The pond generally empties when i first arrive to set up, but if you wait long enough they all make their way back.

Very nice. Similar to Northern Shoveler we got here in Pacific Northwest. Yes , they are very shy here also. I need to get some camo mesh, there are some
good numbers of them not too far from where I live. Without a camo mesh...not a chance.

Shovelers are one of my proffered duck species. Very appropriate low angle and interesting water color..
