Purple Gaped Honeyeater Lichenostomus cratitius

Currently on holiday on Kangaroo Island.  The bird baths were freshly filled when I arrived at my accommodation and got this shot in the front yard soon after arriving.  Don't believe I've seen one of these before, nice to be able to get a shot, don't believe I've seen too many shots of this species posted.

Chris, good for you, getting this sweet image - love the inquisitive head turn that shows off the interesting facial features on this uniquely beautiful bird.

Wow, another nice photo of this difficult bird (Jan Wegener posted one about 4 months ago).

Kangaroo Island - is that a regular site for this species?

Hi all, thanks for comments

Mike,

don't know if is "regular" but I turned up at my accommodation and it was there Birdata reports show a lot of surveys from Kangaroo Island include the species.and there are 309 sightings compared to about 1100 for New holland HE and red wattlebird, but they don't have a photo for the species list. this is the link, you may need to sign up, but it's a great resource : http://birdata.birdlife.org.au/explore# ... n_map=true

Keep in mind the island is pretty big, over 150 km from one end to the other. Very scenic spot though.
