I have several vertical frames of this species, but i was happy to get this pose at the base of one of the perches i set up that lent itself to a horizontal comp. This was shot in southern Oregon in late summer, September 2015.

Lucky dog! Great shot. I have seen these in the mountains outside of LA but never had the chance to shoot them properly. Such cool birds!

Very interesting pose with the tail against the tree. Looks like it is about to excavate- very nice!

Mike, what a great bird to have, and so nicely posed and entrenched within the ruggedly handsome trunk.  Well-exposed blacks, cool lichen and textures on perch and lovely BG rounds things out beautifully.

Great looking colorful frame of what I figure must be a fairly rare WPr. Don't see them posted to often. Love the perch and the nice pose along with the smooth BG and the great details in the darks. Well done
