My buddy and I found a nice spot a few years ago that Pintail ducks like to hang out in. It's off of a road with very little traffic but if you even slow down to look at them to hard, they are off.
We now have figured out how to approach them for a shot after quite a few years of trying. They are very spooky so we now drive up to the pond as fast as possible, hit the brakes, and then out the car window try to get locked on to a drake as fast as you can. Its not that easy as these guys usually take off just as you are stoping the car.
Here's a handsome drake that I luckily caught busting out of the pond this year.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it.

Very nice 'busting out' shot David. The larger file shows off the nice detail in the birds head, and i like the essence of the reeds in the BG putting the bird into place nicely. P.S. mental note don't drive too close to David when he's shooting pintails. Cheers
Thanks for looking,

That's to funny Mike. If we were on a pubic road, we would be in big trouble for the way we drive chasing birds :)
Thanks for the comment

David, gorgeous lift-off shot with super details, pose and light, love the trailing water drops.  Had to laugh because I know exactly what you're talking about, with the vehicle still pitching forward from the slammed brakes, it just won't stop fast enough!  Great job nabbing this beauty.

Fantastic flight shot David!
LOL! Have used that method, and it,s not that easy to pull off,and you go through a lot of brake pads!

Great capture, and I particularly enjoyed the story of how the shot was acquired. Usuall finesse and patience are required; Other times you gotta get more creative!

Now that's not too shabby Dave  :) , lovely timing with cracking detail. So when are you going to send some of that light across the pond?

All the best Bud.

TFS
Steve
