Not a review by any means but worth mentioning. I have had a Kenko Pro 300 1.4X TC for a while and believed it to work very well.
There would be some inconsistencies in sharpness and AF speed from time to time. I just purchased the Canon 1.4XII and used it right away. This combo of the Canon 500 F4IS and the 1.4XII are a dream match up.

CANON 7DII, CANON 500 F4IS, CANON 1.4XII, ISO400, 1/1000, F6.3.

Terry, I agree. There appears to be no degradation for the gain in range. I had the exact same experience when I began using Nikon's new 1.4 teleconverter.

Terry, combo is working great for you, and the nice clean BG brings lots of attention to the bird's details and textures - wonderful portrait.

I'd say this Combo is working out great for you Terry. Nice diffused light helped bring out this great detail on this portrait shot.
Thanks for looking,
