I love shooting at the sacramento NWR( besides being limited to mainly staying in the car). Looks like you had some difficult lighting and possibly heat waves to contend with but your image does show some cool iridescence. Thanks for sharing.

Yes the light wasn't great, but the bird was pretty cool. I was there four days ago and although most of the ducks were gone there were more male pheasants than I've ever seen before and lots of chances at singing Marsh Wrens

Richard, you've captured the feather's lovely iridescence with all its various jewel colors, a very nice relaxed preening pose.
