John, very cool suspended animation shot with dynamically swept wings and tail.  Unique POV nicely shows that pretty gorget color - a scintillating capture :)

I have been the guy holding the flower in place of the feeder so my buddy could get a shot of it against the same BG at the same focal distance with the same lighting as the hummingbird??? Its all a little contrived sometimes but there is no doubt these composites make for lovely works of art. The other thing i've seen done is taking away the feeder, and replacing it with a flower, sometimes adding a little nectar water to attract the hummers. In this case you don't have to make a composite. Cheers John

I can see how that would work Mike.  I have only been able to do hummingbirds setups seriously a few times (it takes a fair bit of travel for me to get to a place where there are consistent birds) but my plan is next time to spend a bit more time trying to incorporate flowers. Up till now its just been learning to get the flash setup to work properly and get decent lighting without looking overflashed.  Thanks for the ideas though.
