Earlier in the week I was out looking for Northern Pygmy Owls on a local mountain when I was really fortunate to see and hear a cougar calling out.  So today with a bit of snow on the ground I went out looking for tracks and hoping to get lucky.  After giving a couple of whistles in response to some distant pygmy owls, this little guy called out from a thicket 50 ft behind me.  A great surprise for the day.
