When i first started researching living in New Zealand i wasn't sure about the 'big move' until i saw this character in the field guide then i was fine.lol. This is our Alpine parrot who lives high in the Southern Alps. They are super curious and although thats great for photography, it has also got this species in a lot of trouble to. They really like to chew on car parts, such as ariels, wiper blades, hub caps and door seals. Kea are currently listed as an endangered species. This is a juvenile bird (yellow cere and orbital ring) and was taken on a misty wet day last winter.

Wow, such a great bird and such a fantastic shot, Mike.
(Just looked at my Common Birds in New Zealand field guides received long time ago and
almost forgot about them. Published in 1973 Janet Marshall F.C. Kinsky C.J.R. Robertson, Kea is on the cover page of volume 2.)

Mike, what a cool bird and a great job capturing its habitat conditions, with the nice rocky, lichened ledge, and the misty layers of the mountain sides.  Feather textures look great, plus I enjoyed the interesting info.

Very nice wide angle habitat shot and I like the pose and colors. I have seen them on TV shows showing just how mischievous they are. TFS
