I was fortunate a few years ago to have this immature female Prairie Falcon give me a nice high speed fly by with her feet hanging down.
The Prairie Falcon is one of the three large North American falcons, along with the Peregrine and Gyr falcon.
This falcon is widespread throughout the western half of the U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. It hunts a wide variety of quarry from birds to mammals to reptiles.

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it.

David, Agree with the others about the BG. I like the Falcon's intense look.

A great image, with a very artsy type BG IMHO. Well done, David, per usual.

We had a Prairie Falcon show up in MA 2 years ago on New Year's Day. Would have been MA first record I believe. It was ultimately deemed a captive bird by MA Avian Committee due to some of the photos appearing to show falconry gear. Some are still debating that though ; )

Best,

Matt

She's a beauty David and the soft background colour tones set her off so well. Great shot!

David, needs to clicked to see the full beautiful details and the gorgeous BG.  Love the flight angle of view, the hanging feet, and especially enjoy the soft vertical lines of the foliage below (ie. like a prairie).  I find this species a tough one to come by, even perched, and yet you got a lovely in-flight - bravo.
